[...] I think it is fairly probable that this increase in transaction costs will greatly reduce the mania in the Chinese equities market. It may not cause a full blown crash - although the market is down overnight as I type and is at a five week low. If you want to play the Chinese market here&#8217;s how to play it from the US. A chart of SLF which is an ETF of the ASX200 listed property funds, yield is still quite decent as well.

crt,
I removed the link and embedded the actual image you wanted. An interesting proposition re the idea that CAF's prem/disc is a sentiment gauge of sorts. I suppose there's merit to that.

Andrew,
is there a graph for an Aussie LPT index somewhere? I'm curious because many are saying the US REIT market rolled over, I disagree. I'm long Cdn REITs which are still doing well. And Japanese REITs have been the hotspot in that market.

... To see the entire premium / discount history for CAF, use etfconnect.com

<img src="http://www.etfconnect.com/charts/chartDisplay/DisplayChart.aspx?type=ETFCv2&id=168692&w=500px&h=200px&dtatyp=premdiscyear">

And now, a call for volunteers to compose a graph of the Shanghai index overlaid with the premium /discount history. :)

The premium / discount of CAF can be - rougly - considered as a measure of what the non-chinese investing public thinks of the class-A-markets. In this context it could be a partial sentiment indicator complementing the movements of the indices.

How useful this is - and how immediate the consequences are - is a question of firepower in the markets. I agree with the view that Shanghai and Shenzen are now a "casino operated by the communist party" (thanks to FT Alphaville) and it may not matter much, for a very long while still, what the foreigners - the more P/E sensitive folks - think about it.
