How To Checkmate McCain’s VP Choice In Sarah Palin at Trader’s Narrative

Rove could teach Machiavelli a few tricks. But he isn’t infallible by any stretch of the imagination. In classic Rovian style, he brought in Sarah Palin to persuade disenfranchised Hillary Clinton supporters to vote for the McCain ticket. He knows that the GOP desperately need the woman’s vote to stand a chance in this election:

As one McCain aide put it: “We either get Hillary’s voters and we win, or we don’t. It’s not a mystery.” Said another: “This campaign is all about the middle.”

But he accomplished more than that. With Palin, he also makes it politically incorrect for either Obama or Biden to go after McCain’s VP because she is a woman. It would look unseemly to have two seasoned, eloquent politicians wipe the floor with an attractive mother of five who has no experience and no relevant qualifications.

Here is an easy way for the Democrats to checkmate Rove’s move: Have Hillary Clinton rip Sarah Palin apart.

She is more than capable. If she devotes half the tenacity she showed in the Democratic party nomination process, Palin doesn’t stand a chance.

She is the only person who can do this. Not only is she the right gender, she is eminently more qualified, experienced and educated. If I were advising Obama, I’d have him suggest the possibility of an appointment, say, Secretary of State - depending on how well Hillary demolishes Palin in the run up.

Oh, and by the way, three years ago we were told that Katrina was God’s punishment for all the sin in New Orleans. So how are we to interpret Gustav interfering with the GOP convention this year?

Here’s a hot tip for you Mr. Barak…………..Market commentary & analysis is “priceless”.
Your political opinions are “worthless”. What kind of trash is this??? I have been a loyal reader of your blog now for a long time now. During your most recent “absense” I checked your blog everday for over a month waiting patiently to see if you would ever return….nothing. You did not even have the decency or the responsibility to your readers to post a “I am gone for now, but I will be back”………no…….nothing. And then this garbage………The political process is bad enough without another contributor. If I wanted political opinion I would listen to CNN or FOX. I neither need nor expect it from you. You’ve heard of the “Gong Show”,
you have just been “GONGED” !!!!!

Why would she aid someone who she will no doubt meet again in future elections? For Sec. of State? Her eyes are still on the big prize and this consolation prize wont cut it. And if you want to compare qualifications, what exactly can Obama lean on? His resume is pretty thin and he’s going for COC not VP.

    This analysis is too simplistic.

It’s not the fact Palin’s a woman, it’s the fact that McCain/Palin versus Obama/Biden completely undercuts Obama’s “Change” message.

Way to go, Mr. Babak! You tell ‘em! That Palin isn’t a REAL woman or she would have had that “extra chromosome” kid killed. (Al Gore style.) Imagine the inconvenience that she has chosen for her family by letting him (it) live, that little right-wing hussy! And she probably thinks that Sodomy isn’t normal! And I’m certain that she hates the poor (don’t all orthodox Christians?) or she wouldn’t be a Republican. I wonder if she contributes as much to charity as Al & Tipper did - 0.00. You can tell that she is so-o-o-o-o judgmental and closed-minded, not compassionate and open-minded like you. (Pardon me while I go vomit.)

wow, it is interesting how this touched a nerve - I was simply engaging in a bit of “what if” and stratamagization - ala Rove. But my intention was to illustrate how one sided and unbalance the political discourse has become.

I’m a Canadian citizen and am not a Republican nor Democrat, nor conservative nor liberal, nor a righty nor a lefty. I’m a citizen who actually thinks about things without a knee jerk reaction based on party loyalties. Any more of us still around?

Can anyone with a straight face tell me that naming Palin makes an iota of sense? That if it was Obama’s daughter who was pregnant out of wedlock, the Conservative attack machine wouldn’t be working at full tilt? that if Obama had left behind his crippled first wife to marry a younger wife and through her, into wealth, becoming a “kept man”, this wouldn’t be used to attack him? that if Obama’s wife was addicted to drugs, this wouldn’t be used to discredit him?

C’mon! A little balance is called for. I am not saying that the Democrats are perfect nor a panacea. But the US political scene has to return to some semblance of propriety or the US will continue to slide deeper into the muck that it now finds itself.

Take it from a friend from the North and an neutral bystander. Or not. Your country, your call.

ps Robert - this is exactly the sort of thing I’m talking about! when did I even mention in my post Palin’s child? or that she should have aborted it? that is none of my business - it was her choice, not mine nor yours.

    Mr. Baback:

It is difficult enough to understand the politics of one’s own country without prognosticating about another’s country. You wrote: ” But my intention was to illustrate how one sided and unbalance the political discourse has become.” Well, sir, from the States it would seem to take a continents worth of gall to compare Rove with Machiavelli and then post a picture of Hillary Clinton for the opposition without comparing her to the same.(Had Nicolo known her he would have written a companion to “The Prince”, titling it “The Princess”!) Now I admit to being more than a little sensitive because I’m from the Deep South. Mississippi to be exact. (To the Enlightened Left that’s “Fly-over Country”; “Red States”; where few young men finish the 7th grade, and when we’re not lynching black people we’re having sex with our sisters - or farm animals.) You said: “I’m a Canadian citizen and am not a Republican nor Democrat, nor conservative nor liberal, nor a righty nor a lefty. I’m a citizen who actually thinks about things without a knee jerk reaction based on party loyalties. Any more of us still around?” So you are apolitical, a thinking person who only desired to spark debate? Sorry, Mr. Babak, but I don’t buy it. You infer that Mrs. Palin barely has enough experience to be mayor of Whitehorse without listing Hillary Clinton’s executive qualifications, much less Barack Obamas. Both of them together have less executive experience than Sarah Palin.
What has Barack Obama done? He has NEVER held a real-world job, and unlike Kerry and Gore he had no group of long-time associates to vouch for his ability, character, or judgement - NOTHING. Only his wife and brother-in-law. Perhaps it’s because he has accomplished little or nothing except to dazzle voters with rhetoric, or perhaps the only long-term associates who can vouch for him are people like Jeremiah Wright or William Ayers: neo-communist nut bags.
“Can anyone with a straight face tell me that naming Palin makes an iota of sense?” I can. If you are a two-faced RINO who won’t even defend the borders of the United States - like John McCain - then you need someone who is more than a “pretender-like conservative” or the base of your party is going to sit this election out. As to Mrs. Palin’s qualifications: compare them with Obama or Hillary and she doesn’t look so bad!
“That if it was Obama’s daughter who was pregnant out of wedlock, the Conservative attack machine wouldn’t be working at full tilt? that if Obama had left behind his crippled first wife to marry a younger wife and through her, into wealth, becoming a “kept man”, this wouldn’t be used to attack him? that if Obama’s wife was addicted to drugs, this wouldn’t be used to discredit him?” Fair enough, but a bad analogy for more than one reason: (1)the Consevative movement in this country doesn’t have NBC, the NY Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera to keep the attack constantly in front of the electorate. And if you compare Fox to NBC it’s proof positive that you don’t watch Fox. I am too conservative to be a Republican (Constitution Party) but I do believe that Fox at least makes an ATTEMPT to be balanced. CNN has greatly improved, but the others are a joke.(2)The Right would probably say that free condoms didn’t help Obama’s daughter, but they wouldn’t be claiming that nothing works except ignorance and abstinence - that’s what the Left is saying about Sarah Palin.
“C’mon! A little balance is called for. I am not saying that the Democrats are perfect nor a panacea. But the US political scene has to return to some semblance of propriety or the US will continue to slide deeper into the muck that it now finds itself.” And who is upsetting the “balance”? The beginnings of the “Muck” were in 1987 at the Judiciary Hearings for Robert Bork. Senators Kennedy and Biden will forever be burned into my consciousness as the unprincipled, demogogic attack dogs of the abortion industry. Ditto and worse for what they did to Clarence Thomas four years later. And then the Right brought in its own attack dog: Newt the Gingrich. And so it went from bad to worse. But the cherry was placed on top of the cake when the Clintons appeared on the scene. NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICAN POLITICS HAS EVER EXCEEDED THEM IN THE “Politics of Personal Destruction”. The “Swift Boaters” look like Cub Scouts compared to those two. They richly deserved everything they got.
“Take it from a friend from the North and an neutral bystander.” I will. I have known five Canadians in my lifetime: one is a wonderful person, another is okay, and the other three were some of the most elitest, arrogant snobs I have ever met. You may well be like the first two. I know we have BIG problems in the US: George W. Bush being one of the biggest. Other than his judicial appointments I can’t think of a single thing he has done that I agree with. NOTHING! I am a strict constructionist, non-interventionist, Paleoconservative. I gave up on the Republicans eight years ago, and on the Democrats in 1970 - when they CEASED to be the party of Truman and JFK and morphed into the amoral, egalitarian left of today. Sorry if I hit you TOO hard. But perhaps it’s best to just avoid the politics of your neighbor to the south.

“What has Barack Obama done? He has NEVER held a real-world job”

I guess that depends on how you define “real world job”. Have you read his life history as documented in wikipedia? why the hyperbole? I think this is what Babak was talking about

    Dear Tom:

I guess that “is” depends on how you define “is”.
I use Websters; Leftists just make it up as the situation requires. So who is full of hyperbole here? It ain’t me.
And yes, I have long since read Wikipedia’s section on Barack Obama, and a lot more on Barack Obama. The one sentence I overlooked is reproduced below.

If Wikipedia is properly vetted (for sake of avoiding argument I will assume that the information is correct)then you made an outstanding point, for according to Wikipedia: “In 1993 Obama joined Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a 12-attorney law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development, where he was an associate for three years from 1993 to 1996…” So it appears that for a period of three years he had a “real-world” job. HOWEVER, it would be interesting to know how this law firm made its money, that is, from personal and corporate clients who actually had to EARN that money in the competitive marketplace, or from grants and contracts with public entities of one sort or another who do NOT have to compete in the private (real-world) economy but are funded through donations and/or tax dollars taken from Americans who had to earn them in the marketplace.
THAT is what I mean by a “real-world” job. You have to compete in the open marketplace: meet a payroll, produce a competitive product, attain sales goals, CONTROL COSTS (unheard of in our Federal Government, but REQUIRED of State governments, like Alaska), et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. NOT spend your life working for public entities of one type or another that exist outside that marketplace by confiscating the earnings of others who have to exist IN that marketplace. I hope I cleared that up.

Awww cm’on, Canadians were always elitist snobs. Why do you think they sided w/KingGeorgie in the American Revolution? But the Mounties always doo-right….right? Cept “right” seems to get more and more complicated, just like mkt prognostifying. Maybe even a deep and intelligent knowledge of the texts is not enuf to keep us on the right side of disaster, especially since we often confuse articulatness w/brilliance.
But I can tell you, being a Tico in my 2nd life, that Canadians are 1st rate and elite snobism is just one of their endearing qualities. Cm’on, who’d you root for Dudley Do-Right or Snidely Whiplash?

“Here is an easy way for the Democrats to checkmate Rove’s move: Have Hillary Clinton rip Sarah Palin apart.” Hey! what a great idea. The problem is that Hillary hates and detests Obama because everybody knows he stole the Dem nomination from her. Why should she help him when the smart move is to wait for another four years. McCain’s response to the Dem civil war is so brilliant that Obama’s fatal hubris will be remembered in political studies for decades to come. The bonus for McCain (and the USA) is that Sarah Palin has all the makings of being an excellent VP and maybe one day CIC. scood, thanks… I think… LoL Canadians aren’t perfect but we’re pretty close! If the US election were being held over here, Obama would have already won (about 12 months ago).

martin, “an excellent VP”… who doesn’t even know what the “Bush doctrine” is! who wants people to leave her unwed pregnant daughter alone, but who wants to make it illegal for other people’s daughter to make their own choices about their bodies, who lies about her support for the bridge to nowhere, who requested more pork-barrel earmark spending per capital for her state than any other state, but now wants you to believe she is a champion of “change”… LoL

watch the movie “Idiocracy” - that’s a documentary of the US filmed decades in the future.

It’s NOT about the pregnant woman’s body, sir. It is about another human being’s body, perhaps another human being of a different gender, or of the same gender with a different blood type. If you have the courage of your convictions then you won’t mind viewing physical evidence which proves my point. Check it out. And then consider the Golden Rule and how it applies here.
