The folks over at SeekingAlpha republish some of my content (with permission). My recent missive about the epic economic battle being waged between deflation and inflation inspired Geoffster, a “recovering lawyer” to write this noetic nugget of a comment:
Inflation or Deflation – that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of inflation,
Or to take arms against deflation…
For who would bear the whips and scorns of deflation,
Th’ inflation wrong, the Fed’s contumely…
The unsustainable spending from which
No taxpayer can avail, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those cuts that
hurt others than those that we would bear.
Thus confusion does make cowards of us all…
And so, without the permission of Geoffster (or the Great Bard), here is my attempt to complete the classic:
And thus the native hue of quantitative easing
Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of gold
And bonds of great profitability and return
With this regard their yields turn awry,
And lose the spreads of action. - Soft you now!
The fair Bernanke! Banker, in thy orisons
Be all my trades remember’d.
Hold for applause.
