[...] Some suggest that the message of the market in the sudden decline of the sector is that the Fed is going to raise rates. I don’t read that much into it. The sector was obviously overbought and needed to pull back. Just look at its distance from its long term moving average (200 day). I actually wouldn’t be surprised by a rate cut - but then again, what do I know? [...]

[...] A good example is the REIT sector with its anemic relative strength. It made a feeble effort to get back up to its 200 day moving average and rolled over again today. Maybe I’m wrong. Wouldn’t be the first or last time;-) I’m not yet giving up on the bear trap thesis for the REITs but if it plays out, it will work over the medium term (weeks) not over the short term. We’ll see. [...]

Ron,
yes, we did get a break of the neckline, but will it complete the measured move? I suspect it won't. But hey, what do I know? ;-)

I must disagree with your chart take on the REITS. We did get a definitive break of the *neckline* on the head and shoulders formation (IYR) the other day. Sure it *could* reverse, but not likley. This pattern is one of the most reliable ones around, once that neckline is broken.

As far as the S$P formation back in the summer of 2002?? I didn't see one..at least not a *classic* one like we have with the IYT above.
